Things to do in Brooks Alberta

 Shopping !

Brooks is home to many stored including some leading chains. For grocery stores Brooks has Safeway, IGA, Co-op and Heritage foods. For chain department stores Brooks has a SAAN store located downtown and has a medium sized Wal-mart. For clothing stores one could shop at 42nd Street, The Clothes Line, Warehouse One Jean Store, The boarding House skateboard shop, or Double Standard Clothing. Another place to shop would be Cassils Center Mall which is rumored to be shutting down for a Safeway expansion. Brooks is also home to Canadian Tire and to Sportside, a sports gear store.


Camping & Swimming !

The main place to camp in Brooks is at Kinbrook Island park. It is located about 15km South of Brooks and is one of the largest man made lakes in Alberta. Kinbrook island park consists of a public beach, a large full serviced campground, a sailing club and a boat launch. People come from all over Alberta to fish, boat, swim and camp at Kinbrook. During the summer months Lake Newell is a favorite spot for people to come out and relax. Another place to camp is at the Tillybrook Campground which is located off of the Transcanada highway. Dinosaur Park !

  Dinosaur Provincial park is a world famous park located about 48km North East of Brooks. This park is located in the Badlands of Alberta and is the home of many rattler snakes and of many Dinosaur bones. Within Dinosaur Park you will find a full serviced campground, a museum, a fishing river and tons of land to hike and explore on. Dinosaur Park is a one of a kind place and is definitely worth checking out. For more information in this park please visit their homepage.


Hockey !

Brooks has a local Junior A hockey team who play often at the Lakeside Leisure Center. The Bandits had quite the playoff run in the 2004/2005 season and they will be the team to watch this winter. For information on the team and games please check out their homepage.

 

 


The Leisure Center !

Brooks now has a top rate leisure center facility. The Lakeside Leisure center has two hockey rinks, a sauna and steam room, a hot tub an indoor water park for kids, a small gym and a large swimming pool. This place is ideal for fitness and for relaxation and the water park is perfect for the whole family.

 

 


Movie Theatre !

Brooks is also home to a movie theatre called Oasis. Oasis plays about 2 different movies per week. Adult fee: $7.50, Senior fee: $4.50, Youth fee: $6.50. Tuesday is cheap night at the theater and the rates are lower.

 

 


Dirt Biking

Dirt Biking is a popular hobby in the Brooks/Grasslands area. There is a motocross track located south of town and many location in the prairie to go biking. Brooks is also home to two Motorbike shops. Holeshot and All Season Cycle

 

 

 


Golfing

There are several places to golf in the Brooks Area. The main place is The Brooks Golf Club, located right in Brooks on the Southeast of town near the Brooks rodeo grounds. There is a par three golf course called Meadows located about 15-20km West of Brooks. There are also golf courses located in small towns near Brooks, such as Duchess and Rolling Hills.
